A reasonable amount of evidence suggests that scaleable models (credit scores, college admissions, social media content surfacing, ... ) can have negative consequences.  Though the author [an academic - turned Wall Street quant - turned tech startup data scientist - turned social justice warrior] simply supplies supportive data points (instead of attempting to be unbiased), the book is insightful.
