Tutankhamun's Trumpet by Toby Wilkinson
7.5 out of 10The ancient Egyptians created an incredible civilization. Most books on the topic are either (A) fun, entertaining, and shallow or (B) a dry, dense, academic yawnfest. Wilkinson strikes a worthwhile balance.
The young pharaoh, King Tut, was buried with 5000+ items in his 4 chambered tomb. In a complex in southern Egypt of 60ish tombs, his was the only one to be discovered by modern archaeologists unrobbed. Among the objects were chariots, furniture, statues, clothes, weapons, wine bottles, jewelry, and a lot of gold.
The book covers geography, history, supremacy, bounty, monarchy, domesticity, humanity, piety, morality, and legacy.
