Bitch by Lucy Cooke

The natural world is a nutty laboratory for sexual dimorphism.

Many behavioral examples throughout the book:  Female choice.  Promiscuity.  Cuckoldry.  Black widow cannibalism.  Fighting.  Social hierarchy.  Hormones.  General dissatisfaction.  Risks of motherhood.  Birth control.  Abortion.  Orca menopause.  Albatross lesbianism.  Gecko self-replication.  &c.

The main thesis is that reproductive and lifestyle strategies are variable across species and adaptive within individuals. Assuming a selfless action is likely a mistake; organisms are looking out for number one.

Amusing to me (yet I have no alternative advice) is that the author dedicates a lot of ink to derisive statements about Victorian Englishmen.
