Our Moon by Rebecca Boyle
7 out of 10The moon is important for life and humanity. As part of its cataclysmic origin, the earth's magnetic field and tectonic plates were set in motion. Primordial life and terrestrial vertebrates evolved in tide pools caused by the moon's gravity. Some animals, and to some extent humans, have an internal clock synced with lunar cycles. Neolithic cultures and ancient civilizations created calendars, celestial tools, and mythologies. Copernicus studied the moon in order to arrive at a model of heliocentricity. NASA put men on its surface for no more significant reason other than to do it first.
