Ultra-Processed People by Chris Van Tulleken
5.5 out of 10Defining ultra-processed food as anything containing ingredients not in a typical kitchen, the author puts forward a hit piece on industrial food production. Personal anecdotes and some selective data points are shared. I admire that Dr. Van Tulleken is open, honest, and that he is hesitant to prescribe lifestyle advice to anyone. The field of nutrition is complex, so confusion is common. The point that the primary goal of food companies is to increase sales, is valid. It is important for people to educate themselves (read a book). However, I suggest that they also take responsibility for their own actions--even if they have been fed lies and addictive additives.
