How Not to Be Wrong by Jordan Ellenberg
8 out of 10This book has a rather unappealing title--weakly phrased and dubiously deliverable*. But, sparing a few corny math jokes, the book is packed with great stuff. Ellenberg shares some valuable lessons regarding sampling, optimization, extrapolation, comparisons, probability, hypothesis testing, updating beliefs, expectation, geometry, regression, causation, paradoxes and formalization. Accompanying these concepts are storied examples and historical context.
*The merits of not being wrong are only briefly discussed. Perhaps, the title was cleverly chosen in order to get folks like me to buy it.
