The Information by James Gleick
5.5 out of 10

If information is surprise (or the logical depth orthogonal to complexity), the pages of this book greatly vary.  To pan (read read) 400+ pages for the gold found in 40 is exactly what an information junkie like me is compulsed to do.  Information about Information; Claude Shannon's Information Theory; achronological histories on books, telegraphs, telephones, the Internet; linguistics, genetics, memetics &c.
