Striking Distance by Charles Russo

Away from the cinema, Bruce Lee was a martial arts instructor.  He was born in San Francisco, raised in Hong Kong, attended college in Seattle, dropped out, started teaching in Oakland, gave lessons to celebrities in Long Beach, demoed his talent at large gatherings, and got in some real fights (on rooftops, in the streets, and behind closed doors).  In the 1960s, Lee was a young instructor who wanted to teach his own style.  His confidence and skill inspired many Americans to become interested in Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, etc.

This book is not bad.  It restricts itself to the details of only a few years, which leaves the reader wanting a bigger picture.  It would make a good movie.
