The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson
8 out of 10
Hmmm...? In 2009 a fly tying hobbyist named Edwin Rist robbed the British Museum of Natural History of hundreds of taxidermied birds. He successfully sold many feathers on eBay--eventually, however, his digital trail caught up with him. He was arrested and tried, but he avoided imprisonment on an Asperger's defense. A couple years later Kirk Johnson (the author) flew around Europe and North America to further investigate the crime--including an interview with Rist. A wonderfully told investigative drama peppered with lots of interesting tangents about Victorian fashion, natural history, medieval fishing, the psychology of the taboo, etc.
