Red by Jacky Colliss Harvey

Lots of interesting stuff!  Red hair is a response to a super-recessive gene (MC1R) and has spread around the globe in identified haplogroups since pre-historic times.  Thracians, Vikings, Celts.  Small percentages of redheads even show up in Afghans, East Asians, and Polynesians.  Due to their personalities, Mary Magdalene, Boudica, and Lady Godiva are often painted as redheads.  From Elizabeth I to Julianne Moore, redheaded women have definitely experienced success--to the point that it is the most popular hair dye.

While I am glad that the author shares her personal experiences and point of view, it is hard to see her main message as anything but whiny.  There are undoubtedly prejudicial stereotypes about female gingers, though I (a fellow rocking natural strawberry-blonde locks) would recommend continuing your aspirations as your best self, instead of trying to directly change someone else.
