Bellevue by David Oshinsky
9.5 out of 10
In nearly continuous operation since 1739, Bellevue Public Hospital in Manhattan NY has seen it all. Wars, epidemic diseases, immigration, natural disasters, terrorism, crime, booms, busts, ... the list goes on. Efficiency has been tricky, but they've surely done quite well. In addition to catering to the masses--and largely as a direct result of it--the professionals at Bellvue have pioneered and employed cutting-edge medical research. A very intriguing and engaging book!
